With the Escape having just bowed out, Ford could fill the void not with a new compact model, but rather with a subcompact SUV. The last model to fill this role in Canada was the EcoSport before it was discontinued in 2022, four years after its launch.
Let’s face it, the American automaker has enjoyed the most success with its larger vehicles in North America. The Escape has always been one of the brand’s best-selling models. Needless to say, we were all surprised to learn that it was being discontinued.
What’s Next
Several media outlets have started reporting on a new entry-level model that could be priced below $25,000 USD and arrive by 2029. The news is particularly interesting, especially since Ford has just unveiled the Fathom, a small electric pickup truck that will be as affordable as a Maverick.
As for the new entry-level SUV that is starting to generate some buzz, it would not be an electric model, but would instead offer gasoline and hybrid powertrains.
Things get particularly interesting when it comes to design, as some mock-ups have reportedly already been shown to dealers, and there is talk of styling inspired by the original Ford Escape. This new entry-level SUV would therefore feature a boxy and rugged shape, which would better align with the rest of the lineup, as we can see with the Bronco Sport, Bronco, Explorer, and Expedition.
The Ford Escape Isn’t Done Yet
The new entry-level SUV will not replace the Escape. At least, that is what the rumors currently suggest. Everything points to the Escape name making a comeback as a compact SUV in 2029 and being sold alongside the new entry-level SUV. We will have to be patient to learn more, but the future of Ford’s lineup is looking particularly interesting.
